Brave Beauty

::From the back of the book::
What will my life be like? Who will I be? Whether girls put these concerns into words or struggle anxiously with these thoughts, during this season of change, girls have questions. Sometimes these questions also come with fears and they need a safe place to process these fears. From Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and blogger, Lynn Cowell, comes Faithgirlz Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You.For girls 8-12, Brave Beauty brings tweens 100 courage-building moments to reflect on Scripture and find confidence in God, rather than in someone, some place, or some thing, as culture will all-too-soon tell them to. Lynn will also prepare girls to:
  • Overcome confidence-defeating thoughts and stand on who Jesus says she is.
  • Shape her self-worth on Christ and overcome the temptation base it on environmental factors.
  • Build a strong foundation to face the fickle and flippant opinions of others.
  • Find approval of herself even when she lacks the acceptance of others.
  • Find security by turning to Christ as she steps through the exciting, yet scary world of growing up
Formatted as theme-based mini chapters, these moments can be read as one-a-days, one-a-weeks, or at the reader’s own pace. Simple and empowering, Lynn’s voice is relatable and conversational, making it easy for girls to feel like they’re spending time with a friend. This inspirational read will be set as a gorgeously foil decorated hardcover, with beautifully formatted pages in line with the well-known and loved Faithgirlz look, and with an easy-reference index to look up any topic.

::My Thoughts::
Let me just start by saying I am so glad that a book like this one is out there for girls. This is a fantastic read for young girls, and I would have loved having this book on my shelf when I was young. This is best suited for girls ages 8-12, but is flexible on age I think. My favorite thing about this book is there is so much advice on being able to deal with and ignore others opinions, and being more confident in yourself. It helps girls find more stability in God than through others, and teaches girls they are not alone. This is definitely an inspirational and truly moving book. It helps answer questions that many young girls have about themselves, and their future. It helps them move into their future with more confidence, and I believe can help root them deeper spiritually. It is current with today's culture, and just an all around fantastic devotional for girls. It is even a great fit for girls that are busy with sports or school as the devotionals take barely no time at all. It even has quizzes for girls to do and find out more about themselves. It would be wonderful for a mother, grandmother, aunt, older sister, etc., to read with their young tween. It gets girls thinking, and the author shares a lot of her own personal stories that are very relatable. This book deals with topics that girls face on an everyday basis, peer pressure, bullying, acceptance of others, self-esteem, etc. There is even a wonderful Table of Contents where a young girl can look up specific subjects she may need help with. The prayers contained in this book are equally as wonderful, and there isn't one thing I didn't love about this book. I definitely recommend it for any young girls out there, and really at any age. It is that wonderful. I, myself, was excited about what would come next. My cousin whom I gifted this book too loves it. She spends so much time just reading and reading it. She can read a chapter a day, more if she wishes, and even revisits some of them. In a world as we live in today I recommend this book for all young girls.

How Do I Love Thee? A devotional journal for wives

::Book Description::
Happiness in marriage is not so much a matter of chance as it is a matter of choice. Choosing to be happy means choosing to think on things that are good and noble and right and lovely and pure—including your spouse’s most positive, admirable, and endearing qualities. Our marriages can’t help but benefit when we discipline ourselves to do this. That’s the purpose of this journal in a nutshell. Whether you’re writing, drawing, pasting, or coloring in it, each page, prompt, and verse is designed to help you recall and record the things you love most about your husband, to reflect on your most cherished memories, and to recognize God’s hand at work in your relationship. I pray you will be richly blessed as you meditate on God’s Word and allow it to shape your life and marriage.

::My Thoughts::
This is a really beautiful journal, and I haven't seen anything quite like it before. I have seen them to write memories for your children, but never for wives which is very important. This book is especially for wives to write down things about their marriage, and husband. There are helpful prompts, passages, and it's a great way to get you to take a look at the important parts of your marriage. There are places to tape/glue pictures, or draw them, and you can just make the pages how you want. The clip art is adorable and classy with plenty of pages you can color yourself. I find writing in this journal to be very therapeutic. There are a lot of meaningful bible verses and passages contained within as well.
This would be the perfect gift for a new bride, or even any married woman. It is literally for the whole journey of marriage start to finish. It starts out at the beginnings, talks about God's plan, goes through romance, children, and it's just something to keep throughout all your years.
What a great keepsake to have when your older to be able to reflect on your marriage. And how awesome for your children to look at this one day, and pass it on through generations. I don't know about everyone else, but I would have loved to have a book like this from my grandma or even great-grandma or before her!
This is a Christian book, and really shows how to love your spouse deeper in all way. It's a great way to keep you on track with scriptures, and faith as well. Sometimes life can get so busy and we are human we get swept right up in it not realizing what we are neglecting. It's the little things we don't always catch.
All in all this is a fantastic journal and I can't recommend it enough. It really got me thinking, looking back on me and hubby's journey from start to now, and thinking of the future.

  • ::Description::
    Learn to walk more closely with God each passing day! 365 Pocket Devotions is a convenient, easy-to-carry, quick-access book containing daily reflections on topics like trusting God, making wise choices, and loving others. Each day begins with an inspirational, thought-provoking reading and ends with a promise from Scripture. A new edition in the popular 365 Pocket series that has touched so many lives, 365 Pocket Devotions is created specifically for those who want daily devotional time with God. (Adapted from the perennial favorites The One Year At His Feet Devotional and The One Year Walk with God Devotional.)

    ::My Thoughts::
    I really love this little book. For such a tiny book it holds so much inspiration and hope. Most devotionals are split up by day or month, but not this one. This handy devotional is just numbered by day: Day 1,2,3,4, etc. It is so easy to read a devotional per day. It doesn't even take five minutes, and after reading my devotionals it lifts my whole day up. There are personal questions that have you thinking throughout the day which I also like about this book.
    It's also very soft to touch and light-weight. It also happens to fit easily into a purse, glove compartment, etc., making it impossible not to take with you.
    And handily it has a built in bookmark ribbon so you don't have to worry about losing your place.
    When you lead a busy hectic life and you find yourself needing God's word this is the book for you. It has been for me at least, and I've been raving about it to everyone who will hear. It gives me the faith and inspiration I need for my day. Each devotional is only about three paragraphs at most yet hold so much meaning in so short of a read. As someone with a busy life who is always on the go I need something I can take with me that is small but easy to read.
    There is a topic index in the back if your needing some of God's loving word regarding a particular circumstance in your life. That is one of my favorite features about this devotional. This book in my opinion has it all. Easy to carry, quick to read, and finally for those of us with busy lives there's a book that will still nourish us with God's word daily. And last but not least this book leaves us with a promise that will have our heart filled all day long.

    90 Days Thru the Bible ~Book Review~

    Paperback: 256 pages
    Publisher: Tyndale Momentum (August 15, 2012)
    Language: English
    ISBN-10: 141435309X
    ISBN-13: 978-1414353098

    ::My thoughts::
    90 Days Thru the Bible is a wonderful reading tool for those looking to better understand God's word. It starts with Genesis and takes you all the way through Revelations. It is a wonderful study guide if you are wanting a deeper understand of the Bible in a short amount of time. Even while this book doesn't FULLY explore the bible it gives you the major principles and reflect on how every one is beneficial to God's story.
    Not only is it easy to understand but it breaks down each chapter of the bible and creates an easy to understand devotional with questions for reflection at the end.
    It is broken down with The Old Testament being Day 1, Genesis 1-3 Day 2, Genesis 4-11 Day 3, etc.
    The Bible is the best book out there if you ask me, but it is also a very complex book for even the most genius of those who read it. We excel at some points in the bible, but can completely miss some of the major events without even realizing it.
    This book will help with exactly that and give you a better appreciation of God's word, as well as His journey.
    I think it would be best used as a reading tool as you read along with your bible. After exploring chapters in the Bible itself you can read each devotional in this book to delve deeper and gather a better understanding and appreciation of God's word.
    Especially useful if you want to understand the Bible in more depth, but just don't have the time to make church classes, etc. It's a very insightful, informative study tool that all Christians would benefit from having, and gives a clearer understanding with those who want one.
    What I especially loved about this book is the transformation it can make on your own life and understanding of God. It is encouraging, nourishing, and uplifting to say the least. It's soul-fulfilling.

    ::From the back of the book::
    Embark on a 90-Day journey to understand the heart of God's story like never before.

    You may believe the Bible's overall message, but have you truly grasped the whole story? We know God's message of love is so simple that even a child may embrace it, and His epic story is complex enough to mystify even the most curious intellect. We want to understand the Scriptures more deeply, to fully share in the Great Story that God has been telling throughout the ages, though perhaps we aren't sure where to start.

    In 90 Days Thru the Bible, acclaimed writer Chris Tiegreen and Walk Thru the Bible guide you through the various sections of Scripture, meditating on how each story and theme, like the pieces of a puzzle, beautifully contributes to God's masterpiece of love, faith, and salvation. You'll come to understand the true heart of God-and the awe-inspiring story He's telling in your own life- in an incredible new way.

    The Love & Respect Experience

    This is a husband-friendly devotional that wives truly love. As a wife myself I can attest to that fact. I greatly enjoyed this book! Me and my husband both have read it cover to cover and now we are working on the devotionals together.
    Most devotionals are more from a feminine perspective and this often will make a husband shy away from it and be uninterested. This book focuses on both and is so equal! Not to mention my husband pointed out that the majority of the male population are not interested in reading something long and tedious if they can’t get into it. After all it isn’t a sports page or something as he said. Ha ha. But with this book each chapter is very short and to the point. Everything meshes well, and while there is discussion points it isn’t long discussions that lead to heated arguments and misunderstandings. It just flows very well and is very comforting for both partners. After the first couple of devotionals my husband was glued and he looks forward to going over it more together again.
    One of the things this book points out is marriage is never perfect. As man and woman joining as one we are still different in every way from each other. This makes it hard to understand one another. We hear things differently, we see things differently, and we feel things differently. This novel puts it in such easy terms for anyone to understand and refers to this as “Pink” and “Blue“.
    This book is based on the principle that if wives show their husbands respect he will show her love, and if a husband shows love to his wife, she will show him respect.
    There are acronyms making it easy to follow along for husbands and wives that we can each work on to show one another the love and respect we need and deserve. At the end of each chapter is a prayer a place to take action. There is also a discussion for each chapter in the back of the book which is most helpful.
    The three cycles it goes through: The Crazy Cycle, The Energizing Cycle, and the Rewarded Cycle are very insightful and it clearly breaks things down.
    I recommend this book to any married couple! The best thing about it is that it not only helps husbands and wives connect and understand each other, but it puts God in the mix as he IS the biggest part of our marriage and lives. There are so many biblical passages throughout this book that pertain to the material, and it is very refreshing. Nothing was hard to understand and for me and my husband I have noticed that things have been so much better. We have never had a bad marriage, but we haven’t always understood each other and we have had our disagreements. Some things that don’t seem as important to him are important to me, and visa versa. This book is not a cure all for marriage nor does it claim to be, but in my personal opinion and from the experience of reading this book with my husband it will help understand and appreciate one another more.
    Not to mention this book is just wonderfully put together. It reads comfortably, and it even feels comfortably. It has a leather texture and feels almost like a heavy blanket in your hand.
    Highly recommendable and I know that me and my husband plan on going over this book together at least once a year and keeping the principles in mind and in practice daily. It's like being two brand new people together!
